Hello everyone,
We are planning to build some carts and wagons and especially a carriage. Luckily I have a wheelwright close by and he has agreed to make the wheels and hubs for us. I am looking for some good manuscript illustrations or good sources. The one I see the most is the Luttrel Psalter carriage I believe and all I have is a line drawing of this. It is pretty good however. Did this equipment vary much in style from beginning to late century? England, France? I would like to see what anyone else may have in mind on this subject. Quite frankly any input would be greatly appreciated.
Henri

Ah, people get busy, distracted, whatever. Trying bumping the thread periodically if you want a response.,

I'd also suggest coming over and talking to Jeff at Pennsic- he's very interested in this subject but almost never has time to post to the boards.

Off the top of my head there are some spectacular wagons in the Mittelauterliches Hausbuch,(which has recently been reprinted as "Venus and Mars") and book called "A Medieval Book Of Seasons". I'll post the URL for the latter when I get home.

Have you looked on the Company of Saynte George website? They might have something there or in an old issue of the Draygon.

Very much dredging memories etc. but when I was researching 'Thomas' the White Company's gun, the carriage for this C15th gun posed some questions on the construction of the axle and hub. From what I recall there were differences in the shape and size of the hubs between countries and the C15th/C16th saw changes in the actual construction of the wheel itself (dishing coming in) and how this relates to the axle.

Also will your wheelright be able to cope with a strakes rather than a tyre ?

If I remember any more I'll post it.

Cheers
Dave
