I'm looking for images that show 15th century soldier types carrying backpacks (aka knapsacks), or documentation describing them.One would think that they'd be a common item, but my web searches have turned up nothing.

Ah, Ron, you've hit a rather sore spot...

Many of us have had several detailed conversations about exactly what a soldier of the 15th century would have carried on his person and how he would have carried it. I have never seen anything like a knapsack for the period, but what I've been trying to do is slowly find evidence for what we call a bag, scrip, pilgrim's satchel, or even a "haversack-like-object". By this I mean some sort of over-the-shoulder bag in which a few possessions would have been carried on the march. Unfortunately, there is nothing conclusive. The good news is that "canteen-like-objects" are relatively easy to justify/document for the period, so there we're OK...
