I believe Mandrake Arms makes vervelles, but I don't know how period they are. Tom Justus makes his own vervelles, and I'm sure they'd be very period. I think Anselm Arms does as well. Tim Finkas might also make them if he's still into brass casting.

The websites can be accessed from www.therionarms.com .

Hi Gwen,
This site sells wetspun linen thread in a variety of colours.

Since Gwen asked about this for me, let me be a little more specific...

Linen thread- need a consistent source for cordwaining thread; the type used for shoes. If I could find a source for Barbers(sp?) I'd be set. I know where to get 5 ply hungarian wetspun linen, but it's expensive and a little too heavy.

I need quantities in the several hundred yards, ideally by the 1/2 pound or pound cone. I'd like to pay less than $25 per 1/2 pound.

I can get two ply dry spun, but it's not really strong enough and is a little too irregular. I don't mind waxing the thread though. And I don't need colors-- natural or white is perfectly fine, preferable in fact.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

There is a Company in Toronto called Capital Findings that carries Barbours Linen. I thought it was a little more expensive than I was willing to spend at the time. However, when my supply of Belgian linen finally runs out, I may have no choice. As I recall, it was $50.00CA per pound and I think they do mail order.

Late this summer I asked the guy at Sav-Mor Leather in L.A. if he carried Barbour's or the equivalent. He said he was working on it and hoped to have it by the end of the year. I haven't been back since August, but it might be worth giving him a call.

Thanks, John.
I will ask them...again.

FYI,
I've been buying from Sav-Mor for over 10 years and have heard the same thing from them for that entire time. They've never had Barbour's in the whole time I've dealt with them, and they still have it listed in their catalog.

Either they're overly hopeful, or they're lying.

They are (sometimes) little cast brass "rivets" that go along the bottom of a bascinet to attach the camail to. They are flattened on the inside, have a little tip on the outside which has a hole in it that a leather or wire thong goes through. The wire holds the leather edge of the mail to the bascinet. Undo the wire/thong, the mail camail comes off.

hey all from Anne-Marie

from weaving works here in seattle: www.weavingworks.com
they also do waxed linen threads (in several plies), wool, silk and mohair as well as cotton and regular yarns. They have a wide assortment of dyestuffs as well, including funky stuff like indigo, cochineal, etc.
