Hello everyone:I had a saved page to a URL on making a fine light weight net suitable for catching birds. I was waiting to get my printer up and running. However I now cannot find the page anywhere in my links. Does anyone know of a site that has such direction on making a net? Or can you refer me to book that you know of. -------------------- Woodcrafter 14th c. Woodworking

Greetings all, from a new reader. Sorry to seem like a grump in my first post, but... I don't know your intended use; however, I believe mist-netting birds is illegal in the USA unless you have a special permit (e.g., for bird banding, study, etc.) -------------------- "The aim of an argument or discussion should not be victory, but progress." -- Joseph Joubert

Thank you both, this is indeed what I am looking for. A friend has Textile and Clothing and I never noticed it hidden away in the back! I shall have to look it up.The URL is good as it has easy instructions to practice net making. Then I can attempt what finds there are. I do not imagine the methods have changed all that much over time. What is mist-netting of birds? -------------------- Woodcrafter 14th c. Woodworking

Mist-netting is using a very fine net to catch birds, rather like an invisible volleyball net that is stretched across the birds' flyway. When they fly into it, they get tangled up. It's a method of trapping that (I believe) is illegal here. I actually have used them -- I spent a week with licensed ornithologists trapping birds to weigh, measure, band and release. Quite cool, actually, to have wild birds in your hands (except for the woodpeckers -- OUCH!). -------------------- "The aim of an argument or discussion should not be victory, but progress." -- Joseph Joubert
