If you'll go here: http://www.adelphi.edu/~sbloch/sca/tents/pictures/

and look for this text near the top of the page- "A nice medieval picture with tents. Someone told me that this comes from the Romance of Alexander"

You'll see this:

Finally, 14thC wedge tents, I just knew they didn't disappear during that century and reappear later unchanged. The white tent in the midground on the left even shows the same type finials at the ends that I "extrapolated" for my wedge. Even a blind hog.....

This is a fine picture. Unfortunately it is clearly mid-15th century, not 14th century. It has nothing to do with the famous Bodleian "Romance of Alexander" which dates to the 1330s-40s. This Ms is about 100 years later. Some of the armor is on the old-fashioned side for the 1430s, but that feature does turn up in some 15th-century "historical" illuminations.

Hi All,

The one near the back is a marquee - you can see the wall in the gap between the fellows at the right.

Peder, the white one.

When I blew it up to look at the tent more carefully, it now appears to me that it may be a bell wedge, and what I took for basinets are that later French helm with the circular pieces at the ear. And I could see the archer's knees as well. I think the dagged body defenses (coats of plate) threw me, I should have looked more carefully.

Oh, well...
