Hello to all on this list, I am a new member. I must say this looks like just the sort of thing I've been looking for.I have been working extensively with several fechtbucher, especially Ringeck, Talhoffer and Le Jeu de la Hache for a while now, but am hampered by a lack of regular training partners. I am a long-term member of the SCA, but have found relatively little interest amongst the local members here. To that end, I'm trying to find people who live near me to form a study group. If anyone is reasonably close to eastern PA I have a location, practice weapons, and copies of many of the manuals (well, 15th C and earlier, anyway), and I'd love to hear from you. Hello Hugh,Welcome to FireStryker! Lets see, there are people I believe within driving distance and on this list. Jeff Johnson, and members of Men of Warwick & Wolfe's Company also belong to a fechtbuch study (and practise) group. They have the kit to be able to explore some of the technique more fully than the average ARMA (ex HACA) affiliates. I'm sure some of these fellows will sound off shortly in response to this thread. Neat that you are into sighthounds - my wife's family used to raise Selukis (some were field champions!), and we plan on a brace of greyhounds as soon as we move into a proper house. -------------------- Bob R.

Thanks for the info. And greyhounds are very cool; when you get yours, let me know and I'll help you get started coursing game with them (unless you just want to do lure chasing; actually killing things isn't everyone's cup of tea these days for some reason). By the way, people who are interested in joining this group don't need to have harnesses (although that would be cool); I'm just as interested in the unarmored stuff. I *do* living history thank you very much (you seem to need to learn that the SCA is not a homogenous group), and no, I'm not going to quit the SCA, because no one else does serious fighting, and without that, the study of knighthood (which is my main focus) is meaningless. Let me know if you have some other interested parties. If I can, I'm going to try to arrange a practice for the next couple of weeks. -------------------- Regards, Hugh Knight Welcome to the Church of the Open Field; let us 'prey': Hunt hard, kill swiftly, waste nothing, make no aplogies.

Ah, that's different, thank you for clarifying! I just get so tired of people bashing the SCA without realizing some of us within it are working very hard both to do living history and to improve the SCA overall. I confess that I don't have a huge interest in 16th-century Germany, unless it might mean there are some folks in that group who might be interested in doing some fechtbucher work! I study the 14th century myself, and I'm neither bright enough to learn two different cultures, nor wealthy enough to buy two kits. Hey! I wanna bash the SCA!I just posted a note to Hugh on our weapons training Newsgroup, asking him to turn from "The Dark Side" and come reenact too. I think he'd like hanging out with people who kick authenticity up another notch - BAM! Tim's in the same reenacting group as I am, We play with Chef Bob's group, and I play with the West Coast group as well and HOPE to go play with the NW group this Fall. (one of the bennies of my traveling so freakin' much). Would love to have you come to an event as a visitor to see what we do. Check out the Jamestown event post above. Join us... LOL! Then do it to someone else; I'll bash it myself, thank you very much! quote: I just posted a note to Hugh on our weapons training Newsgroup, asking him to turn from "The Dark Side" and come reenact too. I think he'd like hanging out with people who kick authenticity up another notch - BAM!
Funny, the folks I hang with already think I *am* on the dark side... Seriously, I've long wanted to be part of an actual reenactment group, if only I could find one that does 14th century (other than La Belle Company; I understand they're at their quota of folks doing knightly impressions). I do need to upgrade some of my kit, however (for example, since I don't fight with steel swords, I don't have a scabbard or sword belt for my steel sword), although I already have a bunch of cool things; how many aquamaniles do you see at reenactments? <grin> I'd never give up the SCA, however, because there's no other place where one can really *fight*, and we learn so much from full-speed, full-power application of technique, but I really would like to *expand* that experience with more realistic settings. quote: Tim's in the same reenacting group as I am, We play with Chef Bob's group, and I play with the West Coast group as well and HOPE to go play with the NW group this Fall. As I said on the list, I really do hope to attend this this year; I've tried to go every year for the last several, and something's always come up to prevent it, however. -------------------- Regards, Hugh Knight Welcome to the Church of the Open Field; let us 'prey': Hunt hard, kill swiftly, waste nothing, make no aplogies.
