Hello all,

I am new to your list, and appreciate the work you are doing.

I myself am particularly interested in Medieval Manuals of Arms, and am translating the 1409 Flos Duellatorum by Fiore dei Liberi. I'm in the process of taking class on the road teaching Fiore, complete with slide presentation, demonstration of the techniques and hands-on learning.

I would welcome any discussion concerning the use of Medieval weaponry. It certainly is one of the aspects of Medieval history where there is little understanding, even in the academic communities, about the realities of combat with swords, daggers, axes, and wrestling.

Many thanks in advance!

Duke Conn, welcome!!!
Please do contribute, I look forward to hearing from you.
Apparently we are going to chip in on the Tenn. event in April and Robert's group, of which I am a part, The Noble Company of St. Maurice, is going to make an appearance. I'm going to try to get several of my group, The Knights of St. Denys, as well.

Hi Bob,

Nice to see you on the list! At the Higgins, our company is working with Jeffrey Singman and Kieth Ducklin on both Talhoffer's take on blossfechten, and looking into de Liberi and armoured combat - progress on the latter is slow, since I am the only participant with a complete harness, although that is slowley being remidied.

Have you had much of a chance to examine any of the pollaxe work in either Talhoffer or le Jeu?

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Bob, I've translated the Getty Flos and now have a one-day seminar I'm teaching presenting the material in the morning and working through it hands-on in the afternoon.

I have worked a little with Ian Johnson on Le Jeu, although I must confess I am not as up on it as I'd like to be (I've been immersed in dagger and longsword for some time now). I hope you have worked with him, and if you haven't I should hook you two up.

I'm looking forward to the presentation in Tennessee. I hope to see some of you there.

Just thought I would let everyone know I'll be presenting this weekend at Cal Tech for Ian Johnson and Schola Solis. If any of you are in the L.A. area, you may want to attend.

Hi Chef,

Our group is doing some of Talhoffer's pollaxe work as well. In fact, my squire and I will be doing some work with it tonight. Drop me a line, if you'd like to correspond on it.

Best,
Christian

Chef: (too many Bob's here) My primary work with manuals has been with le Jeu, and Talhoffer. (With much assistance from Ian, as well.) Myself and a friend are currently working out a class to present on le Jeu. (Mainly oriented for an SCA crowd, but with a caveat at the beginning that we're concentrating on the manuals first, SCA combat... somewhere in the background, there.) Any questions, comments? Discussion is good.

I'll definately drop you a note sometime over the next week - too busy at work (inventory) to communicate inteligeably on any subject at the moment.

The Fiore seminar in L.A. for Ian Johnson and Schola Solis went quite well, some of those subscribing here were in attendance, including Hauptman/Jeff.

I wanted to thank those in the group, for one of the best ways to learn something is to teach it to 30 people all doing it in a slightly different way. I learned more about the techniques from teaching than I ever could just reading the practicing.

I will be in Toronto next, on February 17, presenting for the Academy of European Medieval Martial Arts.

I hope to see some of you there, or perhaps at another seminar in the future.

The Flos Duellatorum workshop in Toronto went quite well. There are reviews on the Academy of Medieval Martial Arts web site: www.aemma.org
Look under the "news" or "multi-media library" sections for a review and short video clips.

For those here interested,

You are most welcome to attend our event at Kinser, The Festival of Saint George.

The event is listed on the site as invitational, and it is. Please consider this your invitation. The favor of advance knowledge of your attendance is requested, so that we may be sure to plan for your accomodations.

The harness and clothing suggested is only a guideline, I'm sure those who frequent here will have something appropriate, and whethere it is 14thC or not is immaterial.

Please come visit us!
