Does anyone know where I can find detailed information on what secular priests (i.e. not members of a religious order) wore. I'd like to find out all the details of what the wore on a daily basis as well as when they were celebrating mass. My focus is more towards the "hidden" accoutrements and the typical construction of their robes.

Thanks,
Kass

It depended on Clerical rank, so you also need to define "Who", as well as Karen's "Where" and "When".

There are quite strict rules regarding the "uniforms" of some of the higher grades of clergy (bishops, cardinals etc), as well as for lower orders.

Is this for an impression, or general rsearch?

Be gentle on her, she's a newbie (snort)

Would that be "Impression, 1470, English, Cleric of a mid/low level Gentleman's household", Kass?

What "Hidden" accoutrements are you looking to put on Bob? Nippy flask?

Payback, sweetie...

As for accessories, there'll definitely be a silver nippy flask. Gotta keep the sactramental wine somewhere, don't we?

Well, I've completed my research on the subject. Bob, my friend, you'll be wearing a hairshirt under a coarse wool robe and no undergarments. Better make that a BIG nippy bottle.

Amazing - the research solutions you can come up with without opening a book or looking on the internet. You just think about it for a few minutes, and Voila!

Okay kids, don't make me pull over. I don't care who started it.

Seriously though... let's keep the play to a minimum. [throws wet blanket]

Thanks,

I would still like to know if anyone has any good sources for the cut and construction of the daily wear of a 1460s English cleric of a mid/low level Gentleman's household, please.

<kicks Jeff under table where FS hopefully can't see>
