Were wooden buttons around in the Middle Ages?

I don't know of any clear and undisputable examples. The cloth-covered disk buttons on the Charles de Blois pourpoint, and on the Charles VI coat armor, definitely have solid cores of some sort. I got to see the Charles VI coat once, and the buttons were in too good a condition to be able to see the cores.

Some details on the Altichiero frescoes in Padua (1370s-80s), show small bare 4-hole buttons which look a lot like modern shirt buttons, but we can't really make out what material they might be made of.
