After all of my yammering about it, I thought some of you would be interested in seeing the Joan of Arc reconstruction I did for the Higgins Armoury Museum. In an effort to get away from the Joan often portrayed in the movies, the interpreter and I opted to portray Joan in civilian clothing from the period when she was travelling between Valcolour and Chignon, instead of the more expected fully armoured portrayal. The jupon and hosen are made from the information given in Harmand's "Jean d'Arc". Not shown are the hood and coat that go with the outfit. The model is my friend Virginia, who (thankfully) was the exact same size as the Higgins interpretor. The interpretor and I are very happy with the results, and she says the decision to portray civilian clothing invites questions on Joan's day to day life that a full harness would not. I am so pleased with the results that I will be resizing thee patterns for men and offering this very early 15th C. outfit through BSD in time for the spring reenactment season. Gwen

Hi Gwen,It's equally impressive on Dianne. I'm very jealous - she has more points than I do! Can I have "the million points of light" with my next doublet? We ought to have a bad joke of the day award, as I think I would have won it. -------------------- Bob R.

My, my. That is nice. Though doing up that many points might very possibly drive me out of my skull. I may seriously have to have one of those at some juncture, if for no other reason than the amusement I get from trying to explain "what them string things are".Bob, I do hearby bestow upon thee the Bronzed Twit Medal for absurdity above and beyond the call of good taste....you shall now be sacked. -------------------- Bet you thought I was dead, huh?

I hate to admit it, but I think we were 1 or 2 short of the total number as I couldn't imagine how to make them all fit without it looking ridiculous.Ah the glorious excesses of fashion! Gwen
hmmm...I wonder if the excessive number of points was a sort of "chastity belt"? it would have taken a wouldbe assailant a LOOOOOOONG time to undo all those, in which case she would have had time to do something about it....
