I have a question for our European members. I am currently conducting an internet search but thought I'd ask.Do any of you know of a supplier for European Birch bark? Not wood, just the bark in sizeable pieces. Roughly 1.5 ft to 2 ft. square pieces. I am looking for bark from Germany, France, or Northern Italy. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jenn

Very small canoes...Or, as one website I visited says "Touching the tree helps to restore the emotions, while wearing jewelry made from the bark helps to reduce stress and relieve headaches." -------------------- Geoffrey Bourrette Man At Arms

I've found american sources for American birch, I am just seeing if I can locate European White Birch bark.I am working on a saddle project and need it for the undercoating of the tree. Construction hasn't started yet, I am sourcing my materials now. J -------------------- ad finem fidelis

Ah, using it for the underside? Good luck I know it is correct, but how often realistically do you think you will have to recover it? -------------------- Dahlin', this can't be real emergency, I only brought one bottle of bourbon and one bottle of Tabasco...

Realistically, probably every couple of years. I have no baseline for how often these saddles were repaired/trees resurfaced historically. Though many were rebuilt and repurposed. One of the saddles that the Higgins has in their collection, has seen at least 3 major reconstructions over the centuries. Mostly in the tree area. The maximillian that they have still has the birch lining. The parade saddle in the MFA's collection does as well. But none of these has seen any use in long time. I guess I'll find out. -------------------- ad finem fidelis
