Hey Everyone!Wow, it's been just a little over 3 years since I made my first post here. Three years since I had the brilliant idea of starting my own Swiss contingent on a salary just better than minimum wage and isolated in the mountains of North Carolina. I have grown quite a bit in my sensibilities and I'm finally at a stage of my life to give this a serious go. Both Mentally and monetarily. I have since moved to Florida, and have recently turned 30. I'm sure a good many don't remember me, as I was quite the silly poster and looking at my old post see just how silly I was. I'm even surprised Bob took me serious enough to help me with trying to get a Swiss contingent started. I appreciate all you did then Chef! I hope to bring a more serious outlook and hopefully bring something of scholarly interest to the board. I, after all, did attend a very good school back home in England for Archaeology (granted is was for "Prehistoric Archaeology with a concentration in Celtic studies"). It's good to see the same familiar core contributing here and growing stronger since my hiatus from this site. Yet on the other hand, don't see many new people posting very often. I guess it's understandable considering this era is probably the most expensive era to do proper and the relative isolation of the LH troupes represented here. Florida is a good ways away from Mass and So Cal, or Europe for that matter. I guess what I'm saying is; Even though I know relatively little about the era, something keeps bringing me back here. To the scholarly approach and welcome, friendly people here, and I hope this time, I'll make better usage of every-ones time and really hope to meet each and everyone of you in good time. (yay for run on sentencing). Cheers, Jason -------------------- Me oportet propter praeceptum te nocere

Hi Jason,Welcome back ! We are glad to have you again. Glen to the best of my knowledge is very busy with the Atlanta Military Center, and a toddler. Bob has gotten heavily into local F&I reenactment, and health reasons have prevented him from travelling to distant 15th century events in recent years. -------------------- Bob R.

Well I heard that there's this guy form south Florida trying to start a new LH group in Ohio. But he doesn't like those Swiss types that like to break Burgundian Camp Furniture!Good to hear from you! We could have used you a couple of years ago back in south FL. Let me Know if you need any help done there. I still have some contacts in the area that are interested in LH. Wow, many miles and years later, I'm still here trying to give it a go. I had a great chance whist still in Florida, but I was working in the Mortgage industry and when it tanked I was redundant and the money I had saved was used to survive. Well I'm moving back to Europe, not Oxfordshire where I'm from but to the Nederlands. How is reenacting this period in the Nederlands? Also might get into the jousting side of things. Anyone know how prevalent this sport is? Thanks in Advance and I missed all of you. -------------------- Me oportet propter praeceptum te nocere

Hiya Reisläufer,As for reenacting the mid-late 15th century in the Netherlands there are a few groups of, to put it mildly, varying quality: http://www.compagniebrederode.nl/ http://www.gravenvanholland.nl/ http://www.huurlingenvanvoorne.nl/ http://www.gelresoverkwartier.nl/ http://www.verbondvanchristophorus.nl/ http://www.medievalproductions.nl/cdo/ Myself I am a member of the last one, the 'Compagnie d'Ordonnance'. It portrays the fitfh company of the ordinances of Charles the Bold, raised in Delft. Our website needs an update since the webmaster/chairman Joram van Essen emigrated last fall and so left the group also. As for serious jousting, a few people who are or were also members of the CdO introduced it to the Netherlands some 6 years ago and put up a seperate foundation to facilitate a.o. this: Foundation HEI Some of the jousters in the group found they could do small joust shows as parttime job in the Archeon, so we're using HEI and its much appreciated volunteer-crew only for other irregular but larger shows outside the Archeon. Some of the jousters also participated in a team winning a few times the Sword of Honour at the Royal Armouries jousts (teamname 'the Burgundians'). Since then the jousting team and also the board of HEI has changed guys but is still very alive. Joram quit living history all together and left for New Zealand, Arne is jousting for the Royal Armouries team and living in England, Derk has quit jousting but still likes to do skill at arms things. The former valets Wouter and Matthijs are now the new jousters with me as third one coming up *crossing fingers* as I did my first Archeon-joustshow last Thursday. I appreciate the info. I will be arriving in 9 days and will prolly take a couple of months to get settled in. I will be living in Almere, Flevoland. So I hope there are some people close by. I've wanted to do this for any many years but having lived in remote parts of America for the past 13 years it has proved difficult to do. -------------------- Me oportet propter praeceptum te nocere

Almere is quite centrally located in our little country and compared to the USA everything here is probably close by. The problem with living with so many people on such a small patch of ground is of course the damn traffic jams ... On the whole I think your chances of doing reenactment/living history over here will probably be very good.If you're interested in portraying other periods than 15th c. you should have a look at the LPLG website. It is an umbrella organisation for all Dutch groups, including a page with links to their websites. -------------------- Bertus Brokamp

What a valuable resource, Dank U wel! My heart is set on 15th c I believe. I wanted to do Swiss here in America so Bob had someone to lose to unfortunately time, distance and money constraints made it a losing battle from the start. I guess if your company has room for an English Longbowman I would love to meet up with you. Not my ideal impression but given the fact I am from England and ik leer nederlands it might be perfect for me. Where is your group located? cheers, Jason -------------------- Me oportet propter praeceptum te nocere
