This looks awesome- too awesome to miss. Would anyone be interested in going in June or perhaps October?

HELLO my name is Alain-Gilles Chaussat.
I am french.
I do not well speak English

I never went to Azincour, But friends went there and my said that it was not indeed . Maintenan, I do not know really, but to us in France azincourt is not synonymic of good assembling. But once again I do not know really it's true.

Hi;

I haven't done Agincourt personally (much too late!), but a lot of other UK re-enactors have, and generally enjoyed themselves immensely.

There usually seem to be more UK re-enactors there than French....which kind of makes sense, since we get the fun bits and they get to die lots!

Yes it is true I also heard on behalf of French that there was more English than French
But it is necessary to say that there is not many company XV in France.
And it seems that they do not like this assembling.
But I do not know.
For so much I make a lot of assembling in Europe, but bizarrely I have never made Azincour. But I agree to try. One can not judge as long as one not tried. Said I the date and I go to see to come.

I've "done" agincort, its a good fun show and the battlefield is really evocotive of the event, you can almost see what was going through the commanders minds when the english made camp!

There is an achual event put on by a group called the agincourt alliance, it used to be on the aniversary of the battle, but the weather always stinks so they moved to to july!!
a coupkle of years ago memebers of that group even recreated the march by henry V from the coast, following the orginal route, i believe they intend to do the same thing again uin a few years!

There website is:http://www.azincourt-alliance.org.uk/
and it even appears to be up to date!

I'd love to do the March with the English, but for the battle, I'd have to take my pollaxe and join the French. Better to be on the right side and lose, then the wrong side and win!

I 'did' Agincourt 4 or 5 times - I have to say it got progressively worse each time. Don't know why, but by the end it just wasn't doing anything for me. It always used to be in October, but due to growing lack of interest it was moved to June last year, I believe - I didn't actually go. The main problem I found is that egos take over, and one or two people (I mention no names) always end up taking over completely, and throwing their (considerable) weight around. Plus there's no nightlife to speak of; the organisers do (or always did) put on a banquet on the Saturday night, but frankly it wasn't that great. Obviously October wasn't a great time for camping (LH style) in medieval tents, but the one thing that 'made' the show was the atmosphere - the sense that we were 'doing it properly', so to speak. And having endured floods, snow, and 90 mph winds, I can really sympathise with good ol' Harry V! Doing it in June just wouldn't be the same (although I *would* love to do the show again). I am, however, contemplating going out to Azincourt (the French changed the name!) in October, to do 'The Remembrance' as it used to be done, to light a candle at the monument and have a few quiet thoughts, as we used to do. I don't know if the organisers are planning to do that, but it might be an option if anyone else is interested. I think I'll drag Caliburnus along!

Actually, my post was meant to illustrate the upcoming world longbow competition/reenactment being held in June at the original site. I believe this is being done seperately from any formal Agincourt reenactment but I could be wrong. I thank you for the "heads up" however and will rethink on my desire to go in June.

Oops, probably sounded a bit harsh. I believe the June thing is being organised by EDICAA, who always organised The Remembrance in October. Patrick Fenet (who I believe is the local mayor) is a really lovely guy, he organises everything from the French side. My main gripe is with the English organisers, about whom I could wax lyrical! That said, the June archery competition might be fantastic. Don't quote me! I guess the best thing I could suggest is to go along and have a look! And if it's great, let us know, and I'll join you next year!

I admit that I am looking for an excuse to go across the pond. I thought Agincourt would fit the bill.
I would crawl through five miles of broken glass and then dive into a vat of lemon juice just to take part in a reenactment in the U.K. However, I am unsure if this would be welcomed, what with me being "foreign" and all. I would love to get some fiends and go! Rule Britannia! Tim, Anglophile Supreme

Tanc,

I'm thinking of taking a trip over to the UK this spring. London, Leeds, Warwick & a couple of other places. Wouldn't mind you as a travel buddy.

Let's talk,

Jeff J.
