An interesting film. It takes place on the Island of Jersey in the 1940s.

Nicole Kidman plays a house wife in a very nice but lonely mansion with her (2) photophobic children. Her husband has not been heard from since the war ended.

The servants had left without notice in the middle of the night and Her daughter claims to have seen "ghosts".

Three new servants arrive on the scene. I won't say more than that. The ending also had a surprise twist.

The over all appearance of the film is gloomy, dark, and misty like the moors. It was suspenseful and no gore. It takes a WHILE to build up... a little too long in my opinion. Overall I think it is worth a looksee at matinee prices.

i just saw it on monday night. i left the movie theater very pleased. this is a movie that less is more. it let your mind wonder what was going on without spoiling it with useless gore and f/x.

the movie's ending wasn't spoiled by anyone for me. this is one that the less you know about it the better it is.

the movies mood was'nt rushed. it slowly built up giving you time to sink into the mist and gloom of the story. it darn right made me jump a couple of times (aswell as everyone else in the theater) and kept me on the edge of the seat through most. i kinda like that it gave me a little while in the middle to relax and return to normal breathing and heartrate right before jabbing me in the kidneys one more time.

the imagery was great without being too hollywoodish. i don't think i can discuss it much without spoiling the end.

overall, i liked it and wouldn't mind seeing it again just to be able to pick up on more of those litle things that make a lot more sence at the end. i'm not impressed by many movies lately this one did. go see it.

I loved it. It was great storytelling - imagine no explosions or chincy effects! I love horror ( NOT GORE) and the film was oustanding in my humble opinion. The mood was almost like an old Hammer Film. Nicolle Kidman looked so much like Grace Kelley that it was almost as eerie as the film!I give it my highest recomendation - whatever thats worth!
