I just sent a version of this to Bob R and then decided to ask everyone here for their opinion too.

I was thinking of having some baseball caps made up with our embroidered livery badges- Firestryker, Glouchester Boar, etc.. Market would be history buffs, reenactors, teachers etc. I'm thinking they would be fun, sort of an "in" joke amongst the 15th C. types.

Think they would sell, or are baseball caps a strictly California thing?

Any and all opinions are welcome!

Gwen, wearing her "Historic Enterprises" owner hat.

Heck yes! I'd buy such a critter! I think this is a great idea! A little chance for some of us who could care less about professional sports (and in the Denver area to most folks are d*mn near religous about the teams) to wear a logo on our heads that we care something about

Who would have thunk it?

I'll find out what the cost is and let you know.

For those of you waiting for Red Co. T shirts, I have the artwork, but have been unable to get in touch with the company who does the rest of our HE T shirts. I may have to source a new supplier. In the words of Bill the Cat "Pffft".

Feel free to keep the comments coming!

As you've probably noticed, I don't like hats and never wear them. They'd probably sell to those who do.

And we could wear them backwards, flash authentic 15th century gang signs at each other... It'd be our own version of "Knight's Tale"!

I suppose it depends on the designs offered. You already have the "Boar" and "Sun in Splendor" patches that could be sewn to caps. Is the patch-maker's embroidery and the hat-making embroiderer the same? That'd make it easier to get them made, eh?

Don't forget the east coast groups, you might sell a couple of dozen "ragged staffs" and some Badgers.

Free-association: I just bought a motorcycle. I've been thinking that when the rest of my armor is finished, I'd get all armored up & take a little spin around a parking lot and have photo's taken. Now, Gwen's got me thinking of replacing the manufacturer's patches on my riding leathers with livery badges.

JeffJ said ""ragged staffs" and some Badgers. "
We have a ragged staff currently in the works for the Warwick guys- who is the badger for?

Sorry Jeff, that movie's been done--haven't you ever seen "Knight Riders"?

Gwen

PS- And yes, "Knight Riders" really is based on the SCA and was shot in PA near Cooper's Lake.

"Codfish", excuse me, "CodNOR" had a badger, though I think it looks more like a short-tailed armadillo. Love the livery: Christmas tree with armadillo motif.

I've heard about "Knight Riders". Never seen it, though. A couple of guys I know claim to be represented by main characters.

"Codfish"? Sounds like something from Black Adder.

YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN "KNIGHT RIDERS"???? You really should, as it is a very interesting film. Not great cinema, certainly not "Casablanca", but good in its own way.

And unless your friends are Bob Fox and Peter Ellis, they ain't the guys the movie's main characters are based on.

I imagine Blockbuster would have it. Look for "Knight Riders" with Ed Harris.

If you liked "A Knight's Tale", you'll probably like this one.

Jeff however, says:

"It's really stupid! They didn't take the time to switch the throttle to the left so they do all the lance passes backwards [i.e. with the lance in the left hand]"

Anyway, this thread is about hats, not Knight Riders! If we want to discuss it any more we should start another thread.

Hey no ragging on the Badger. That's our Badger. Wolfe's Co/Retinue of Lord Grey loves the Badger even if it looks like a strange aardvark. Would love to have the Badger on a hat. Or even an embroidered badge for sale by our favorite living history supplier hint hint .

Steve says "an embroidered badge for sale by our favorite living history supplier hint hint"

Eric L. said the same thing about Warwick badges, and I've told him a dozen times to tell me what he wants and I'll have them done up for him. He's never pushed it so they never got any, and I've NEVER heard about your badge!

The offer stands for anyone out there- if you want a historical livery badge made up, contact me / send me artwork and I'll have them done!

Even if it's a special interest one (like your festive aardvaark Steve) place a minimum order and I'll do them anyway.

I'm a fair to middling seamstress and business person, but my mind reading skills stink!!

Gwen,

No mind reading needed. I just thought of it as I was reading the post. Sounds like a cool idea. What is the minimum and of course what would be the cost and turn around time?

Steve- I'm replying off line as I don't conduct business here. (At least I try not to!)

JeffJ- I thought it was going to be one of those hats that's a big wedge of cheese. In my overly active imagination, I'm thinking of a hat shaped like a live badger, so as worn it would look like you had your head stuffed up a badger's rump.

I think I've been working too many hours......

The hat idea sound cool! I never go anywhere without a hat, and I am definitely interested.

As for the armoured motorcycling... A few years back I was with some SCA friends headed home from an event (to which they all rode motorcycles), and we had to drive through Daytona, and it just happened to be Bike Week... Needless to say everyone donned their armour and rode up and down Main St. and a good time was had by all....

Hi all-

I'm working on getting a price for the "FireStryker" hat.

I'm doing the best I can but it may take me a while (till September) before we get them.

It's less than 2 weeks before I head out for Pennsic and I'm about ready to start pulling my hair out in clumps. It seems that all the folks who thought "I can sew that myself" have now decided "There's not enough time for me to make it myself- I'll just order it from Black Swan!"
