Yesterday at joust practice I took a bad fall an broke my right wrist, both bones, about 1" on the elbow side, which (I'm told) is good because a break in the joint itself is mucho bad. I have to have a full-arm cast (from knuckles to about 4" above my elbow) on for 6 weeks and nothing strenuous (i.e. jousting or sword-swinging) for a good 9-12 months. Immediately upon hitting the fround the realization of me not being able to joust and stuff was FAR worse than the actual pain. Still is. Just wanted to let all my buds know...

That truly sucks. Condolences. Still, it could have been worse. It sounds as if you still have finger use. Besides, you could have landed on your head.

On the positive side, now you'll have time to take up research & some delicate projects for a few months. How about a Hand-sewn gambeson?

Oh wow Glen... I am truly sorry to hear that. However, if they say 9-12, be a good white knight and be patient you'll be breaking lances with the rest of them again.

The Dreamer-minstrel says that the bright side is that you didn't break your wrist in a really bad place, which would really suck big time.

Take care and we are glad that you are all right.

Glen,

I'm _very_ sorry to hear that. Do what the doctors tell you, I had a repetative stress fracture of my right wrist nearly ten years ago, and as I wasn't very good at following ionstructions, it took me more than five years to get full strength in my wrist back. I am a terrible patient (I generally ignore doctors, or tell them to bugger off unless I am completely laid low), but in this case, I would follow their advice having learned the hard way.

On the bright side, you now have a chance to use your enforced idlenss for research. I expect you to be in full WOR kit by the time you are healed (regarding your clothing anyway). If you are not I will take advantage of your lack of practise when next we meet (I would assume next years MTT) and make you look foolish with your sword (remember my 'black knight' tendancies?)

Take it easy Glen! Now you don't have an excuse for not posting (type with your good hand you worthless and weak goodie-goodie!).

Glen, that truly bites! Listen to what everyone says about taking it easy. There's nothing worse than a break that won't heal. Get well soon.

From Alasdair, who at one time or another, has broken just about everything.

Can't say we're buds yet, but I'm sorry to hear that you got hurt. Keep up on any optional p.t. the doctor gives you: I had a really horrific left wrist break from a fall as a teenager, and even though, like yours, the breaks were not in teh joint itself, ever since then there's a distinct difference in how much weight and torque I can let my left wrist work with. I didn't have PT at the time, wasn't available, but if it's offered, my experience suggests that you take it.
