I can't help you on late 15th C. lances specially. In NZ and Australia we base ours on earlier late 14th century illustrations. As far as I know none of the sports jousting groups in your country are using lances that even have a remote resemblance to an actual historical design.I'm happy to e-mail you our lance design specs if you are interested. Otherwise one of the good 15th century groups like Destrier in the UK could also be worth contacting. -------------------- URL=http://www.jousting.co.nz Facebook [URL=http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1290562306]

Hi;If it's any help, we have a number of surviving lances in museums in the UK (Royal armouries, Wallace collection) and france (Les Invalids). They follow several different patterns and lengths, and are mostly jousting, rather than war, lances. I don't have the data to hand - I'm travelling on business right now - but I'll try to post the data when I get back in a week or so. Neil

Neil,If you get a chance, some data would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has some specs on quintain construction that would be great too. Friedrich, Glen K had a page that I think is an overview. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Cyprus/7530/Lance/ Jenn

Hi JennMay not be for a while - my job means I'm in Sweden right now, but on the upside, I'm going to get to visit the Royal Arsenal in Copenhagen again, which has some nice tilting armour. Don't think there's much detail available about quintains other the manuscript illustrations, and not even as many of those as you'd expect. It's worth noting that some of the best-known illustrations of quintains show people running them on foot, and I've seen a lot of books dismiss these as "Apprentices imitating their betters". Maybe they are, but Duarte does actually recommend practicing the quintain on foot, so then again, maybe not.... Neil

HiThere's some good stuff on mounted lance - a lot of it from Duarte - in Sydney Anglo's "Martial Arts of Renaissance Europe" The book is a bit pricey (£35ish), and mostly concerned with fencing, but I've got a copy if people are interested. Neil
