The Festival of Saint George at Kinser was a resounding success!! My heartfelt thanks to all that helped and all that attended, your enthusiasm, chivalry, and largesse were incredible!.

I'll say that the Fiore approach is the most direct and to the point martial art I have seen. I had a great deal of trouble for a while because I just couldn't believe it was that straightforward.

When the torches were lit and the Pas started, the whole list area became surreal. A long look in 360 degrees revealed nothing that destroyed the illusion; there were some small anachronisms, but they were lost in the background. We're not yet living history, but the improvement was dramatic.

I'd like to particularly thank the folks here at Firestryker for their support, advice, and above all their patience with us as we reach higher.

The park supervisor was so impressed that he offered us a better section of the park away from modern sights.

(aside to Genevra - Instead of hearing "WalMart's got some new duct tape" I heard "well, I spoke to Gwen last week and she said my hosen would ship next week." Refreshing change.)

I'll post them as soon as I get them back, several folks took some, but I think they all had film cameras instead of digital.

What Bob did not tell you was how good his chicken pasty (seasoned with Pouder Forte) tasted Friday night!

I've got some pictures up from the event. I'm afraid they aren't terribly good... James may yet convince me to get that new camera I look forward to seeing other's pictures.

Anyway we have four pics from the class, two of the wrestling section and two of the swords section.

A group shot from before the Pas

An overall shot of me, our dog Ennis, and our camp set up Unfortunately this picture took much fiddling to be able to see anything, but the dog is pretty photogenic.

I'm glad things went so well! But...I have to say after looking at your pictures--

YOU HAVE A KEESHOND! I had one, Wolf, for many years and he was the most amazing dog. Smart, protective, friendly, you name it. We used to say that if he had opposable thumbs we would have to hide the car keys. Sadly, we lost him last summer, but we had several litters of fine puppies from him and we still have his younger lady love, Misty.

I have taken them both to many events, horse shows, etc over the years. They were always exactly what the information I've researched on "The Dutch Barge Dog" said they should be. Watchful and protective of their "family" and "family's stuff" without being aggressive; friendly to all as long as their "family" member said it was okay; loyal, smart and loving. When Wolf died, our friends called us, weeping over him as we did.

I've been told they are period for 15th-17th century but I haven't been able to find a great deal to support that.

Sorry for the tangent, I just was excited to see another Keeshond.

Anna,

Thanks for posting. I'm just that much more irked I couldnt make it. The kits all look great. Shame the figures are so small in the pics I'd love to have a better look.

Ah well, next one I'll make by hook or by crook.

Thanks again,

Janos

Hi, Anna!

Glad you had as much time as I and my lady wife did. Your pictures of the class and the tournament seemed to turn out much better than the ones we took did. Ah, well.

We appreciate your help with the pavilion, and will send a letter (as soon as I find out where Rebecca put the Fiore flyer, that is!). Hopefully, we'll see more of you folks in the future.

Mitake!

You sneaky lady, you. I wish you would have told me from where I knew you, I could have bored you with many lies and stories, and made a few new ones up as well! I'm not really good with new folks, it's a character flaw that I'm working on

I'm so glad you got to attend, and another heartfelt thanks for your generous parting present. I certainly hope you come back this fall, we're cooking up a refresher Fiore and even more fun "at the fence".

Don't know what the problem is with my system at work, but I can see the Viking stuff and the next event under it, but I can't see the latest event.

Chef says he can see it from his home system and Gwen can see it from her home system. *shrug* I guess I will ahve to wait until I get home.

When I examine the page source this is what I am seeing behind the image tag:

St. George2001/bascot_murdoch&bascot.jpg

It is not customary to put a space in the name of a file. Also for some systems special characters mean specific things. Ah well... I am on my way home so I should be able to see them.

Hi Bob,
my problem wasn't getting to the St. Olaf site, it was viewing the Kinser event. I can see it fine from home. No worries.
