I got this email this morning-

I am planning a wedding in October (medieval style, of course!) and the bridesmaids dresses that we are creating are inspired by some that we saw in the film Braveheart. After many hours rewinding and pausing, we discovered that much of the decoration around the neck and wrists was done with buttons. Hoping that the costumer did her homework and this is accurate, we have decided that we, too would decorate the dresses with buttons. Looking at our local wool shop, we have seen some that we like. I think that yours are lovely, but am wondering if they would go with the fabrics that we have chosen. The kirtle is a lovely, soft gold. The surcoats are jewel-toned red, purple, and green brocade.

Do I start screaming now?? Do I jump up and down and curse Mel Gibson? Do I send a letter bomb to the costume department? Mel spent 33 million dollars US and a lot of time on Letterman telling the world his movie was authentic. I'm not as cute as Mel and I surely do not have 33 million to educate the world on Scottish history. Instead, I'm going to have to waste time emailing this girl, and advising her for free starting with the pewter buttons and ending with her lovely "jewel-toned red, purple, and green brocade".

AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!

I get these **every day**- now do you see why I get a bit testy sometimes?

I won't describe the medieval/Renaissance wedding horror that I saw on a public TV station a few days ago! It looked totatlly rediculous and why anyone would want to get married looking like a tavern "wench" is totally beyond me, but I still found it unsettling.

Then it's a good thing you don't do what I do for a living.

Thankfully I have an ironclad policy of "WE DON'T DO WEDDINGS", so I can usually get around dealing with these people long term. However, it doesn't stop the initial contact.

Too bad I threw away the one from the SCA gal who had a "Irish seacaptain persona" and wanted to have "custom garb done that wasn't ridiculously expensive."

I just pitched that one as I knew there wasn't anything I could say. What *could* I say?

It's usually bad, but it does get worse around the full moon.....

Saw the full moon yesterday. It was red a bad omen! LOL.

Actually it was very large and quite beautiful and yes, the lunatics were out.

I don't know if I could handle the Medieval wedding crowd, I certainly know I could not make my living at it, my talents fall elsewhere.

Leigh and I were able to "assist" a couple that wanted a "medieval" wedding. They were determined to have Scots stuff, so I taught the groom, Dad, grooms, etc. how to throw a plaid. They actually managed to look halfway decent. Unfortunately, the bride, bridesmaids etc were outfitted by mail, so you know where the money went there! (Atlanta, in case you are guessing). It was a harrowing experience, and one that I hope never to repeat in my lifetime. Mike T.

If you can afford it, don't EVER do weddings. People snap under the tension and lose their minds when they're getting married, then we wind up bearing the brunt of it.

As if a wedding dress and a tux wasn't enough of a "costume", people try to wear things they've never worn in their lives (kilts, corsets, ruffs) in front of a whole roomful of people who are looking at them and evaluating their appearance.

*Sigh* I did do a Rob Roy RenFaire gown for a woman a few years ago and she was really happy with it. At least it wasn't a wedding!!
