Just wanted to ask if anyone minds if I post a bunch of really dumb generic questions for the next few months?
I am trying to research a whole bunch of topics for 1385 to 1415, England and France. I know from experience the best thing to do is ask, since others have access to better libraries than I, and can tell me where the info came from as well.

First dumb question:
Can someone give the details of a good book full of generic info so I can at least avoid some of the dumb questions I need to ask in the future?
thanks.

Yes! get daily Life in Chaucer's England by Selligman and McLean. You can't beat it for what you require. It is pricey but well worth it.

Hi Tim,

That is "Singman" I think - Paul Morgan curator of the Higgins (and now Forgeng after an official legal name change).

Yes, it is "Singman", and I second the suggestion. I have the book in my reference file at work and will post the ISBN when I get there.

I'll also cast my vote for -

"The Wars of the Roses - From Richard II to the fall of Richard III at Bosworth Field - seen through the eyes of their contemporaries."

Edited by Elizabeth Hallam
ISBN 1-55584-240-2

Usually stocked in libraries; usually available through one of the online booksellers for $18-$40.

Ok I really must get 'Daily Life in Chaucer's England'. This is the third time it has been recommended to me.

Nothing decent is stocked in the libraries in my area. They are really bad. They cater only to people interested in magazines and romance novels. Even the local university library is pretty poor quality.

Daily life in Chaucer's England
Jeffrey L. Singman and Will McLean
ISBN: 0-313-29375-9

Daily Life in Medieval Europe
Jeffrey Singman
ISBN: 0-313-30273-1

Greenwood Press
88 Post Road West
Westport, CT 06881
http//:www.greenwood.com

Higgin's Armouryt Gift Shop carries both volumes, cost is $48.00 each.

If your local library has little of value in the stacks, you can always do inter-library loan. If you have the correct title, author and ISBN this should be a relatively painless process.

Good luck!
