In period law, could a hereditary title pass through the female child, or did she lose all rights to a title upon marriage?

I am interested in the period between 1460 and 1480, and, while I am focusing on the Italian City-States, I am interested in documentation from Continental Europe, so as to better understand the similarities and differences.
