1) I've heard rumours that a posthumous collection of Janet Arnold's work on smocks and underwear was forthcoming this year, does anyone know anything about it?2) Anything on the new Herjolfsnes book yet? 3) Boydell & Brewer listed a book about the Winchester effigies to be published Spring of 2001- anyone have any news about that? Thanks- Gwen

I had heard some stirrings on the Janet Arnold book as well, but nothing concrete at all. After speaking to the Danish Polar Center, publishers of the Journal that the first Herjolfsnes articles, they informed me of a possible new text on Viking clothing possibly next year, but again nothing definite. I suspect I will have to dig deeper to get anything definite word. I am currently negotiating the rights to the first Herjolfsnes work, which we would be producing as a stand alone reprint. I will keep you posted. -------------------- Johannes

Well, I dug out the flyer, and I'm embarrassed to admit that the effigies are in WESTMINSTER ABBEY, not Winchester:
The Funeral Effigies of Westminster Abbey Edited by Anthony Harvey, Richard MortimerA remarkable collection of rare historical costumes illustrating the rich history of the 21 effigies of Westminster Abbey. 20 col. illus.; 53 b/w/ illus.; 231 pp, ISBN 0 85115 783 1 $35 / paperback
I just checked and wasn't able to find it either through Amazon.co.uk or the Boydell & Brewer website, so I emailed B&B directly. I'll post if they contact me. Gwen
