Synopsis: On receiving the news that a son [Giovanni] had been born to Cosimo I and Eleonora di Toledo, Castellan of Livorno Giovanni Battista Lodron was so overcome with joy that he ordered artillery salutes, which however resulted in a cannon breaking. Campana requests advice on whether or not to send the fragments back to Florence for recasting into two smaller cannon. A marginal rescript in the hand of Lorenzo Pagni records the Duke's order that the pieces be sent back to Florence for recasting.

Extract: [...] Questa mattina abbiamo inteso la buona nuova del figlio rjcevuto da Dio la Ill.ma S.a V. A tutti è stato grandissima aleghrezza, e massimoi al S.or Castellano [Giovanni Battista Lodron] ne à avuto ghran contento e per segnio di ciò s'è fatto um [un] pocho di ghazarra in fortezza e nel scharichare la pezza di malatesta chrepò versso la culatta in più luoghi, ma non à rotto. E per questo non n'à fatto danno a persona, e da poj è rotta. El chastellano si chontenterja, quandodo piacessi a V. Ex.tia se ne facessj dua colobrine, perchè in questo luogho non poriano essere più a proposito, e chontentandose quella lo potremo far seghare e mandarllo in Firenze [...] [In hand of Lorenzo Pagni:] ^Faccisene pezzi con e' carbonj et si mandino qua, et se ne farà due colubrine^ [...]

I spoke to them this morning on the phone. They are in the beginning stages of indexing some --6 million-- documents, and only have a few thousand online, and no textile samples yet.

I think this will be a great resource in the future!!!
