Higgins Armoury Museum wants me to do a replica of Joan of Arc's clothing for one of their interpreters. I have to do the research for it, and it seems to me the best resource would be that list of her clothing that I've heard about.

from the Armour Archive- "I have a copy (which I have been promising to xerox for what seems a decade) of a French book inventorying and giving patterns for Joan of Arc's wardrobe. Master Vuong Manh, C.P., Storvik, Atlantia"

This guy never did come up with the actual book, so does anyone know where I can get my hands on it? Peder, can you help?

No, I don't have Evans' book, nor do I have the book she cites. I would be extremely grateful for anything you can get me on this! I'd also be happy to examine the document and let you know what I think of "Joan of Arc's underpants" if anyone's interested.

All joking aside, the museum wants to be as factual as possible in their reconstruction of her clothing, so this source is my best source of fact, not speculation or conjecture.

I suspect the book you probably want is:

Jeanne d'Arc: ses costumes, son armure. The date I see is 1929.

C'est tout en francais.

I've seen a lot of descriptions of what she wore. Basically, she dressed as a fashionable young man. Quite scandelous. If that's not enough, I will try and dig through my collection of Jeanne d'Arc biographies for a description.

It is always amazing that these same people don't dig very much to find out what some of thier solutions really were.

Hey, at least they're trying - most people don't do that much, and we're not all history majors here...

I can't believe it, but there is a copy of the book for sale through ABE-- but it's about US$135! Ack! Maybe I should ask the Higgins if they'd be willing to buy it for me....hmmmm...now there's a thought!

Brent-

I did get your email, that's how I found the book. Did you get my email response?

Also, if you do have some info on how women dealt with their monthly cycles, I'd be interested to hear it. I have some theories, but haven't come across any facts.

I'm dying to get my hands on that book because I want to know what Joan's arming coat was like!!!!!

Well, we're OT now, but I would suggest that Speculation, while not perfect, is still better than Assumption. Speculation at least implies an interest and curiosity.

The primary participants used a few sources. They may not be good sources, but there were some.
