We did this for a while on the Red Company list and had a lot of fun with it, so I thought I'd start a game here.

The rules are easy- whoever answers correctly gets to ask the next question. Any historical question is OK, but to keep the game going the answer can't be ambiguous. Trick questions and arcane facts are all part of the game.

I'll get the ball rolling with the following question:

Nicolo Machiavelli wrote what classic work in 1521?

Hmmmm. Lessee here...The Prince was what 1513? So that's right out.

The only other one I can think of is "Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livius"

Aww poo. That aint right. I just thought of one other one. So I'm using it as my final answer.

What is "On the Art of War"?

Hi Peder -

If we are talking about elevating a Duchy or a county to the dignity of a Kingdom, then my answer is the Holy Roman Emperor or the Pope. (Phillip the good spent quite a bit of time petitioning the Holy Roman Emperor for this honour - he was offered Brabant as a candidate, but refused it as he thought it too paltry - a grave political error.)

I started this, and I'm stepping in to clarify a rule because this game is lagging!!!

In an effort to keep this game moving along, I'm imposing a time limit like in chess. If you have the correct answer, you have 12 hours to pose another question. If you don't pose a question within 12 hours, the last person to get a correct answer gets to ask another question.

Everyone is welcome to play, but be prepared to ask a question if you get the right answer!!!!

Bob, it's been 50+ hours since Peder confirmed your answer as correct so I'm disqualifying you. In this case the question would revert to Peder, but in an effort to get things rolling I'm going to jump-start it now-

True or False: Margaret of York (sister of Edward and Richard) marries Charles the Good in Bruges in 1468.

Margaret of York married Charles the Bold (Le Hardi), Duke of Burgundy in 1468.

I should have figured "Charles the Good" wouldn't slide by...

Your answer is correct and you have 12 hours to post another question.

Hi All,

Since it has been a while and my question remains unanswered, in the interest of keeping the game moving along, I will put up an easier one, and if anybody answers the first they can consider it a bonus question and get a free question.

Question -

What is the name given to the war started between Louis XI against all of his greater nobility, including the Dukes of Brittany and Burgundy, and his own brother in 1465? Hints-

It lasted about a year
There was only one major field battle (Montlhéry - July 14-15 1465)
The Nobility of France blockaded Louis in Paris & made mim agree to an unfavorable treaty
In less than a year Louis had turned his enemies against each other and regained nearly everything he had conceeded, thanks to his devious brilliance in politics.

Bon Chance !

Hi Peder,

It was the Comte du Saint Pol - close enough, on to you lest this stalls.

Still pondering chef's second question...

Man, I have this answer on the tip of my tongue...League of Public Weals...Treaty of Conflans and Treaty of Saint Maur-des-Fosses...dang... I can't seem to find anything on the actual name of the battle. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

You stumped me Chef! I'll keep looking though...

I almost want to say War of the Roses, but that isn't right. D'oh!

Peder, could you be a little more specific, or is that all we get
