Hi All,We are (not yet officially - I just spoke to the Landowner for the first time) holding an event in Hardwick, Mass, toward the end of May - final date yet to be determined. This is not far from Deerfield, for those of you with a bent toward F&I War studies. To drag you English into the 1470's, tentatively the scenario is the withdrawal of Edward IV contingents from France, after the massive payoff of Louis XI. The English army during it's withdrawal - through Burgundian territory - inflamed the local populace with a fair ammount of looting. The contingents were then attacked by the local Burgundian garrisons, with varying degrees of success or failure, leading to further recriminations between Charles the Bold and Edward IV. The scenario is open to discussion, I suggest along the same lines of communication that we discussed Michaelmas. There will be scenarios with interaction between contingents (the attempted negotiation of the return of loot/surrender/peacful withdrawal of the English, with accusations brought forward by civilian members of the local population for starters), as well as a 'feast' to attempt to repair amicable relations between erstwhile allies. The event will become official by Mid-November, after firther discussion with the landowners. Horses are welcome (limited numbers - if 20 horses showed up, we might have a problem) -------------------- Bob R.

Hi Kass & Jason,Yes, toward the end of May (whichever weekend Cullodon 2004 does not fall on). As we have more English than anything else, and the next largest number is Burgundians, I was trying to come up with a scenario that caters to both. The limited numbers we have make anything outside of minor skirmishing impossible, and the 1471 Arrival campaign is short and brutal, with large numbers. This is the best Scenario I could think of, that enables small detatchments to engage realistically. And yes, it is based on actual events after Edwards payoff by Louis, and his falling out with Charles - while the main body of the English army was never attacked, detatchments of forgagers and looters were set upon and killed by locals and Burgundian garrisons (or results visa-versa). Besides, mercenaries from the confederation fought as members of the Burgundian army until just before the battle of Nancy. If we get to use the mountainside acerage near Wolfeboro N.H. in upcoming years, the terrain would lend itself to the Swiss campaign - if you can supply the Swiss, I might be able to supply the mountain -right next to a lake in fact, a big enough one to float a minsweeper. This site in Mass though allegedly has a castle, although I have not seen it yet (it is owned by a stonemason with a passion for history) - I wouldn't worry about it looking odd, he is particular as to his guests, and only the better F&I individual reenacors get to play on it - the first assurance we had to give was that we weren't the SCA. -------------------- Bob R.

Worse for Jason than You Jeff!Hardwick is actually a pretty quick ride for New England - It will be almost 2 hours for me from Nashua, and it took us 7 1/2 to get to Penn - were we not lugging a trailer in the old Suburban, that would have been a six hour drive - so about 4 from that site. The Pennsy and Jersey folks will have it the easiest outside of us natives. -------------------- Bob R.

Heya Wolf,We are getting feedback from WA members now. We are hoping for a better turn-out from our own membership this go around, but I won't speak for them. So far, we've had one member indicate that he won't be present as he will honeymooning in Europe. The gentleman that owns the site has been re-enacting for at least 30 years, so he knows what it's all about. He is also the Constable, a selectman for the town, and is on the town fire department. When he heard about the potential for a cannon, he offered to pull a permit for us. He was very enthusiastic about it. Any body want to bake bread? The site boasts one (of 4 in the US and Canada) authentically crafted beehive ovens that we've been given permission to use. Erik says he's cooked a mean pizza in it amongst other things. Chef went out to view the site Thursday afternoon. So he can fill everybody on the particulars. Probably the first weekend in May, we will go up and take some pictures and post them. The cleared land has trees on the perimeter and it is my understanding that modern items are not within eyeshot. All in all, it should be a fun experience. -------------------- ad finem fidelis
