The Red Company - 1471 will participate in the Military Timel;ine at the Ft. MacArthur Artillery Battery in San Pedro on July 7&8.

We will probably have 12-14 people, 2 horses and about 6 tents, which compares favorably with other established groups.

Guests are welcome to participate with the RedCo. Please contact Jeff or Gwen at historic@pacbell.net to arrange for loaner gear if you'd like to participate but don't have the correct kit.

Well, this has been 3 days of one disaster right after another. Thankfully, most things appear to be at least marginally under control, and noone's dead- yet. I still have shopping to do and food to cook but heck, it's only 8PM.... I have *hours* before we leave.

We pull out at 9AM tomorrow morning and won't return until Sunday night, so we'll catch you all on Monday.

hey Gwen,

don't feel too bad. it's midnight over here and i still have hours before my exam at 8am.

if it weren't for assorted breaks twixt my studies i would have gone nutts muttering 'bout acids and bases. remind why i want to be a chemist? sorry the brain is going off again.

well thanks for providing a much needed respite. i seriously should come out to CA to check you out one day. (perhaps when i stop complaining to bob about my headaches with my own LH group hee-hee)

brain definitely gone now... must go... hbbbbbbbbbbbbbb

sorry forehead resting on keyboard.

How'd it go? Couldn't make it due to previous engagement in the SF bay area. Did the Viking/Anglo Saxon group from up here make it? Hope a good time was had by all.

ah yes...acid redox..... (similar to what happens to your stomach after all that coffee you drank to stay awake for the P-chem final....)

you want to be a chemist so you can be the only one of your friends that actually uses the stuff they took in college for their real job .

--AM, who uses her degree every day, even the stoichiometry!

use this stuff? nawwww!! it's just a way of getting ... er, umm... sorry real bad chemistry humor

anyway down here in miami we have the cuban coffee. the stuff goes straight into your bloodstream! no sitting around in the stomach for it. slogan: who needs sleep with Cafe Butelo around... shake...shake...rattle... ( the sound of my leg twitching from all of the residual cafine still in my bloodstream from four nights ago)

have fun,

daniel

Still waiting for our photos to come back from the shop. Darn 4th of July holiday!

Too bad I didn't get any photos of Jeff doing a very impressive job of bleeding for the public. He and Bill were doing some Fiore stuff when Jeff managed to simultaneously cut his finger on Bill's armour and hook his lip with Bill's pauldron (don't ask). Managed to bleed on his breastplate, clothing and saddle. The folks were very impressed with the blood literally dripping from his hand! What a ham, he'll do anything for realism.

Cut himself on the other guy's armor!?

"Sharp-looking kit you have there!" I could't resist.... Hope he's feeling better.

Re-enactors' headache: I slipped going down the grassy hill. Should've known better, my turnshoes had bare leather soles. Aetheric made a couple of interesting suggestions for making this safer. I wonder if any of you has some input.

I had the same problem (slipping, not cutting) while I was watching the parade up on the battery -- that dried grass was like ice!

Sole leather is very thick, and I think I'm going to make some shallow cuts across the sole to give me some more traction.

Sorry we were never formally introduced- I assumed you could figure that I was the one slinging the grub.

As far as shoe traction goes, how about hobnails put in the soles... but this fix becomes a real problem on modern floors (esp. tiles) as you become "reenactor on ice"... but very entertaining for the public at large!

cheers,
jsmart

jsmart said "reenactor on ice"

I suppose as long as no one has to perform this show topless it's still a family show, right?

Melon? What melon? That was a pompeon, thank you very much. Just so we're clear, you were eating pompeon and Battista was eating gourds--OK?
