I can attest to this. Pending on what focus they have, this is far and away a good event to meet and learn from many of the people leading the cause in relearning medieval and renaissance sword technique and historical teaching documents.

Without question, HACA has been instrumental in organizing a platform where such people can meet from different countries. What has happened before, is that these events have leaned towards more renaissance teachings (as there are more people and surviving material).

Of the people you may see:

John Clements - Director of HACA
(Historical Armed Combat Association). John has written both good starting books on medieval and renaissance swordsmanship from a 20thC point of view.

Christian Darce - Strong fencer. Owner of Purpleheart Armoury - makes excellent wasters (practice swords). Very nice guy in correspondence.

Some of the west coast enthusiasts will be there. Bob C. (on this list), aren't you going?

John Waller - Fight Director & designer for film. Also head/senior interpreter and demonstrator and Royal Armouries in Leeds, UK. (Coming up here to Boston a few days later which Bob R. & I will be at.

Hank Reinhardt - Longtime sword researcher and enthusiast. Founded much of the rebirth/interest in medieval swords in the US. Co-founder of HACA. Founder of Museum Replicas Ltd. I believe he's going to be working with CASI (manufacturer) soon and leaving MRL.

To learn, I'd definately go. I just have 3 things already planned for that day that I have to choose. Price is reasonable.

Peter

Ask yourself: "what do I want to get out of this?" and "does the event meet my expectations?"

Friedrich pretty much indicated who's who at the expo.

If you are interested in the subject and want to learn from some of the best out there
I would definitly say that it is worth the price of admission.

If you wish to learn more about HACA, you can visit their website at:

I don't think I can make this symposium.

I doing a presentation in Tennessee in April - see the "Flos Duellatorum" thread in this Events area - and I'll see several of those fellows in San Francisco in April at Brian Price's Symposium.

Thank you very much. I am not versed in the world of organized learning and am mainly self taught. I have finally shed my cloak of hermitage and would love to meet other people, that are into the same things I am into. I do have a serious love to learn and I rather liked the list of the bill. I just did'nt want to show up at the hotel and find a bunch of guy's sitting around with shinai's and fencing masks I really appreciate your input and I will be going, anyone south of Atlanta want to ride share or a free place to stay over the weekend email me. I live about 80 miles south of Atlanta and will commute each day to the event.
