Medieval Swordplay with John Waller

Tuesday, 5/1/2001 - Wednesday, 5/2/2001 7:00PM - 9:30PM, 7:00PM - 9:30PM

Higgins Armory Museum, 100 Barber Ave., Worcester, MA

$45 museum members, $60 nonmembers

John Waller, Head of Interpretation at the Royal Armouries Museum, England, will be giving hands-on workshops on medieval sword combat. Mr. Waller, internationally familiar from the videos 'Masters of Defence' and 'How a Man Schal Be Armyd' as well as from the History Channel program 'Arms in Action', is one of the world’s leading figures in the reconstruction of historical martial arts. He will be assisted by his son Jonathan Waller, himself an internationally known fight choreographer, and by Andrew Deane, Senior Interpreter at the Royal Armouries. Enrollment is limited. Sounds neat. Can't make it though. My wife couldn't get off work, wish it was on a weekend... I am planning to get up to Higgins this year sometime. I bet my wife will notlike it very much. I could stand and look at armour for hours and hours. It would be cool to see your arming demo. She might like that better, at least there would be people doing things and not just us two looking at "stands of metal".

Just saw your post on the faire on May 5th. Can't make that either. Have to work that weekend. One of these days....

Hi Sir Dan,

It's the first Saturday of every month we do our demo, although there is the occasional exception. I hope you can make it out some time, we could point out some of the more interesting pieces.

We usually have civilians as well, and goodies other than metal suits - if your wife has any interest in medieval crafts or that sort of thing.

Hi Bob. Sounds great! July and August are open to me to comne up withouttaking and vacation. The other first Saturdays I have to work. I could still come up, jus thave to use vacation. When you say civillians, I assume you mean civillian impressions correct? I will have to talk to my wife and make some plans. Thanks for the info. Look forward to seeing you guys in action!
