Hi!I just wanted to share pictures of my new helmet with you. your toughts are very welcome. its brim is very wide (i look like darth vader without the bevor ) and i think face protection is sufficient. it is made of 2mm mild steel. the persona for this is the (very)late 15th century south german mercenary everyone is portraying these days thanks in advance for your upcoming replies [ 10-08-2004: Message edited by: kanzlr ]

Thanks! I do love it much Its not based on one original, but I combined two design aspects on this. I wanted an open faced helmet with high bevor. so i have chosen a brimmed helmet like those that the picture in the men-at-arms "German medieval armies 1300-1500" is based on (infantarist on the last color plate) and designs seen in the Dragon No.5 basically i combined a classic open faced sallet with the wider brim and the movable neckpiece of the Brusseles effigies. It doesnt look exactly as intended. the smith i commisioned with it took a rather big artistic license here I hope it fits well in the second half of the 15th century. thats a reason for posting it here maybe somebody knows a picture of a helmet that more closely resembles it than what i have found yet. the pictures in the Company dragon do look very similar, just without movable neckpieces. thanks for your reply -kanzlr

heh, not sooo cool. i wanted a closer replica, but the guy is not that familiar with such stuff. anyways, i like it, as its mainly for the battlefield and for internal tournaments, so the public is not that close i may get a light, thin, good looking copy of some museum piece later for show.after some searching, i have found today made helmets that share the characteristic of having the front reinforcement drawn all around to the movable tail. i have asked one manufacturer if he could tell me on what helmet it is based, so i can say "look, its similar to XY"

Kanzlr whrite: "i may get a light, thin, good looking copy of some museum piece later for show". I can make it for you if you want . I really like to make historial helmets but where i live, nobody want to buy this kind of helmets. They prefer roleplaying games and fantasy games Some examples of what i make: http://cf.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/francoislarcheveque/my_photos -------------------- www.flarcheveque.com
