Hi all,

As many of you probably know, we have been offering stock armour for a year or so now, and one of those offerings is a style of cuisses based on those from the "Avant" armour, ex. Churburg #20, now in the Glasgow City Museums at Kelvingrove. I'm friends with Tobias Capwell, who has recently been appointed curator of the Arms & Armour collections, and he purchased a pair of my cuisses last month. A couple of days ago, he sent me this picture comparing the Avant cuisses with ours. The Avant cuisses are the pair in the center, and ours are the ones to the outside.

I have only worked from photos of the Avant armour; I've never seen it in person, and when we made the cuisses in question, we did a variety of sizes. No attempt was made to duplicate the exact size of the Avant cuisses, though perhaps one of our additional pairs in a smaller size might have been a very close size match.

Anyway, I think we did pretty well in making them like the real ones. But you should judge for yourself...

What can you say but

"Thats real armour, and thats what a good reproduction of real armour looks like".

If only all reenacting armour was of that quality, I'd be very happy.

Strongbow, just try and put aside a little money every week.Within a year you'll have $$$$. Get a piece or two at a time.It may take a few years to piece it all together but it will be worth the wait. You wont regret it....Otto
