I am certainly no expert but are the buckles on existing suits of armor arm and leg harnesses a copper alloy ie brass bronze latten or are they of steel. The metal arts has steel buckles but they may seem out of place on my 1460ish suit.

Don't mean to be a bother but I like to try and get it right.

The buckles on surviving Italian harnesses from the mid-15th century seem to be typically of iron. Mostly they appear to be forged from rod stock, and I have made these myself from very heavy gauge wire hammered square and bent around a trapezoidal mandrel.

I cannot answer so confidently about German examples, except that some pieces are known to have copper-alloy fittings, and these are sometimes tinned, which, if they are in good condition, would make them difficult to distinguish from iron fittings.
