Hi,

Can anybody recommend an armourer who makes a reasonably priced replica of the 1250 Maciejowski Bible's rounded kettle hat (not the lampshade model!!!). I don't seem to be able to find anybody who has this thing in his catalogue or else it does not look like the real thing at all.

Thanks, Lord of Leon, but I'm afraid it does not look at all like the maciejowski kettle hat, and it's pretty expensive too,

Hi Henk,

Try Medieval Reproductions. http://www.cadvision.com/medieval/

Peter Fuller Makes a nice one, at around $225 - $275. Jeff Hedgecock could make you one as well, but I still think he has quite a wait. Either will make you a proper example of what you want, and I highly recommend both.

Hello, Henk!

Perhaps you should try Manning Imperial in Australia. His URL is:
http://users.netconnect.com.au/~manning/index.html

His is based on the Goliath in the Maciejowski Bible.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the url, but it so happened that a friend of Ca 1265, Andy G, has mailed me the same url a few days back. He bought one of this armourer. I went and had a look at his kettle hat. It's the best I've seen sofar. Now it seems that one of our own armourers is trying his hand on a Mac replica. So I'll wait a bit to see what happens.

Thanks anyway,

Henk

To Henk:

Boy, Andy's name comes up in some of the most interesting places! We have corresponded over a period of two years, and he has taught me a lot. You should be proud to know him.

Hi Bob,

Isn't it a small world! I've known Andy for 3 years now and we met overhere and at Kirby Hall (UK) and Ghent (Belgium) a couple of times. We're great friends and both interested in ca 1250-1300 stuff. He's a full knight of ca 1265 and I'm starting out as a city militia pikeman of 1300 (I'm also a 1350 herald, a 1300 friar and 1290's citizen and drummer). We had try-outs last year (a.o. at Kirby Hall) and it was fun. Still no word about the Dutch kettle hats but I'll keep you posted.
