This is just a heads-up, not a promise.....

I have a good pattern for an arming coat for use under 15th C. armour, which I am going to try and have manufactured for me on my prototype. They will be sized so that anyone who can buy one of my doublets off the peg should be able to buy one of these coats off the peg. There will be lacing at the waist which will afford a bit more flexibility where it is needed and should extend the range of sizes a bit further. This will not be a "one size fits most" padded tunic for wear under chainmail or ill fitted multi-period armour.

I see that the availability of more plate through the Czech armouries and places like Valentine has created a greater need for proper foundation garments, so I'm doing what I can to fill the void.

The plan is for coats with arming tabs to rig 15th C. plate armour properly. Made of linen or fustian with cotton batting. No grommets or polyester, although I can't guarantee hand stitching at this point in time, although it does appear to be an option.

Like I said, this is in the planning stage and will take the better part of a year, -if- it works at all. Just wanted you guys to know I'm working on it.

Gwen,

You know that I will buy one, if you do decide to go ahead with this project, and you even have my armor there to match it up to!!

Please consider a "big boy" size in the line even though you do not offer a standard doublet that way. (aka XXL).

Arming coats will follow our regular men's sizes:

  • Small (40" chest, 34" waist)
  • Medium (42" chest, 36" waist)
  • Large (44" chest, 38" waist)
  • XL (46" chest, 40" waist)
  • XXL (48" chest, 42" waist)

I'm not sure if 3XL (50" chest) and 4XL (52" chest) will be economically viable, but I'll see what I can do.

Another reason to love Gwen!

Might there be an option for minor tailoring - like pulling a waist in a few inches? Tight waists and roomy shoulders are a must for these critters.
