Would anyone hapen to have some info about these livery/colors. Are they directly related to the Duc ? Around what time/date were they worn/officialised up until when ? Are there anymore images out there that depicts these specific colors (purpure & sinople) ?

Thank you

Hi Marie,

That picture is "The Entry of the Duke of Burgundy (into which town I cannot remember)", and the archers on foot are the personal bodyguard archers of the Duke. Their livery is unique, and it altered when Charles the Bold ascended to the various ducal/comtal thrones in 1468.

For 1465, we may very well abscond with the noir and violet of the comte de Charrolois archers. Besides, it goes with our violet scheme for the ordinances.

I will post some other lords colors in a little while.

Bob said that it is thought that in the picture above, that the red and blue garments may very well be brigandines.

Yes, I believe them to be brigandines too and the little gold thingies the sparks that are usualy depicted aroud the "amadou" of Philippe... Though they might be fleurs as well

Mhmmm... interesting that you say that because it seams that "Philippe de crevecoeur" and "Le Borgne de Beauvoir" also had this color scheme

Were there really any devices on the green & burgundy particolor of those archers ? ... Cause I saw another image where Charles the bold's courtiers (or esquires) are dresses in those same colors, though the top is green and the bottom is dark red, no particolor...

The trouble is that Phillipe had a tendancy to change the issue livery to his attendants annually, and sometimes seasonally, and the colours varied widely. The thing is they almost always had an insignia, sometimes his and his wifes cyphers emproidered, sometimes variations of his badges. I was focusing on the brigandines/liveries of the archers, not the green and purple.

Yes, they could represent the livery of whoever the manuscript was made for, but given they are the attendents of Phillip, I don't personally think this is the case.

I will post some of the colors this evening. We've been running all over the place this week. My brother and niece are visiting so we've been "off line" for the most part.
