I have yet another question I am making a pair of shoes for wearing whilst in armour. I have really bad feet and need all the support in my shoes as I can get. Is it period to have a hard leather sole sewn/nailed to the bottom of a turnshoe? I have read where this was done in the case of repairing shoes but I am not sure nor do I have any sort of documentation for this.

I was going to mention hinged pattens but you said you would be in armour at the time. Always a possibility though i don't know how stable they would be.

I am working on some pattens for my soft kit but I will be in armour every now and then and would like a fairly stiff sole. By the way...aren't you in the UK? You are up kinda late. What is it...2 or 3 am over there?

I may put the soles on and make them to where they aren't very noticeable. They are temporary anyway, just lasting until I can get a better pattern and more leather. It does bug me to know I am making something without historical evidence that it was used.

Use orthodedic inserts- your feet get the support they crave and noone will be the wiser.
