Went to get a tonload of lining (for my gambeson, no its not a moving blanket), and guess what i see?
A big roll of linen, right in front of me..
Obviously i got some, but not having a lot of cash i ask how much it is.. it is supposedly water-damaged (I can see nothing wrong with, neither can my mother, shes a seamstress..) as such it was £1 a metre ($0.5-70c i think)

So i find myself in need of a decent patterns for an undershirt - im a 48" chest, the material is 60" wide) - and a armless, front-loading gambeson, around mid thigh to knee length..

Does anyone know any links to these patterns? An undershirt (Thigh length arent they?, a simple t-shirt i think it is, no flounces or gatherings), and a gambeson, armless (Ill most likely point some chain sleeves onto it or the like).
Thankyou.

I would like THIS sort of gambeson in the end result..

Yeah, I got nothing for this..

i don't have a pattern for you as its a little early for m but what i hear everyone who has built one say, is: do the channel stuffing first as it considerably rduces the size of the end product. i realised this when making a coif and found it would only fit a doll :-(. I would advise contacting your group for thickness req's and styles that are allowed.

Could it be Dave Hunt from the Towton Battlefield Archers? Nice guy is Dave. He and his lads are clients of mine, but they do 15th C. not 14th.

Not sure, its an educational ygroup going from school to field etc. I've participated in this group a number of times, these have been
: Muskets, War of the roses.
: Pike, 13th
: Spear 11th
and one generic LH one.

This is why i need generic gear.

Try not tog o for generic gear but lots of different outfits that are all right. with the cheap fabriic you have and your mother being a seamstress, a few weeks work and you could have some nice kits.

P.s, this fabric, i MUST know where you got it from. a few yards of some heavier stuff would eb greta to have around.

I just tossed that line off but I've reconsidered.

Seth, if all you want out of this medieval dress up hobby is beer and bash, "generic" civilian clothing would be a tunic and leggings for almost any medieval period.

If you want to do any sort of Living History, you need to narrow your focus to a 50 year period, because that's about as far as any one style is going to stretch, "generic" or not.

As a point of information, this board is populated by people who's focus is trained on a 50-75 year period between about 1420 and 1490. Although many of us have passing knowledge prior to and post-period, this is the period we're here to discuss.

If you want help in making historical kit for any period betwen say 1350 and 1500, we're the best ones to ask. However, you need to help us out by doing your homework and *thinking about what it is you want to do*, and communicating that to us.

I suspect that if you keep throwing random questions out, there will come a point where folks will stop answering, just because *you* haven't really sorted out what it is you're doing, or what you want to do.
