Anyone know the history of this game?

I've seen information on the web that dates games like it as far back as Egypt. Of course you have a lot of sites parrot the same info without documentation.

I am looking for images or citations of use in 15th century France and the Low Countries.

I believe the French version is called Quilles. I've seen the Low Countries version called "Dutch Pins", though I don't think this is what it was called in the time space.

Kegel is a German game of a type.
