Hi All,There was an online UK foundry that made these, and brass pots. Are there any other sources for these? I would order from the UK fellow, but he seems to not have any stock, nor reply to e-mails after initial inquery. -------------------- Bob R.

Is the one you'd already contacted Historic Castings?Billy and Charlie have a small pewter candleholder based on a 14th century example at the Museum of London. Design Toscano has a set of brass candlesticks based on 16th century candlesticks from Chartres. Steve Millingham used to sell a candlestick (15th century, I think), but I think he discontinued that item due to safety reasons. (Something about the heat from the candle causing some of the pewter to melt, I think?) But he does do special orders.

Hi Karen,Historic castings is definitely the fellow I had in mind. 2 years ago, I asked, he said he had some in stock, and would sell me one. I asked where to send the money, and I never heard back from him, even after several enquerries. I am aware of the pewter ones, but I want one of those Van der Weyden ones in brass. Thanks again. -------------------- Bob R.

Hi Karen,If I was ever feeling a little flush monetarily, I'd certainly be willing to spend for an original - maybe in a few years. In the meantime, I contracted with Patrick Thaden to make me a copy of a little traveling one in the MFA in Boston. I'd still love one of the big ones if the chap would ever be willing to sell one. -------------------- Bob R.

For those interested in those brass candelholders, since historic castings seems to be dead there is an alternative. I had one made in France, and it looks exactly like the one on a painting by robert Campin. If you are interested in one I would sudjest you ask: Mathieu Harlaut [m.harlaut@wanadoo.fr] he is also a Company of Saint George member and has a friend who does these candelholders. I got mine for 200,-¤ which isn´t cheap but at the moment there are just to few doing good brass or bronze things. Here is a picture of the type I am talking about: http://www.wga.hu/art/m/master/flemalle/merode/2mero_c2.jpg [ 02-03-2005: Message edited by: Martin ] -------------------- Verpa es, qui istuc leges. Hi Bob, well I know these kind of candlestick holders are a favorite, and I know a lot of people are frustrated that historic castings have shut down. The fellow making them doesn´t make large batches, but it should be possible to get a few from him. I myself am very happy with his work.Secondly no point in hawking all the addresses and then complaining about standards!
