I'm not sure I know the answer to this question, so I was hoping someone could answer it for me?

From the reading I have done, the medieval Islamic world was fairly enlightened. Granted, most of this reading was by David Nicolle.. How did the medieval world of Islam treat women? I have been inclined to think it may have been a lot like what are termed the more "traditional, conservative" communities, what with the bhurkas, the cloistering, the genital mutilations, etc. Anyone have an answer for me?

Thanks much for the info.

I don't know if anyone here has studied the Middle East, especially the rights and treatment of women, in depth. Most tend to focus on the military point of view and that tends to focus on the Crusaders.

Fire Stryker as a UBB community tends to be more (Northern) European in focus with occasional wandering into the Medieval East.

We may not be able to help with this particular question, but we might be able to help with others.

You may be able to find a more in depth response to this particular question on a sister forum called:

More Perfectly Period

Hope this helps.
