I picked up a pair of elk Moccasins for $5, and some boots for $40 at a recent event. I put a leather sole on the shoes. Is there anyway to make these more accurate 15/16 century? Couldn't pass up the deal.

Thanks

No.

It would be better to go to the salvation army thrift store, pay $10 for a used leather coat and cut it into 15/16th century accurate shoes.

Moccassins are moccassin shaped and look like moccassins no matter what you do to them unless it is total reconstruction for which the moccassin does not have sufficient leather in the right place to use properly.

Now if you bought them for the leather, they may make a nice belt pouche or a coin purse for placing inside a belt pouch or scabard material for an eating knive sheath.

Here is a pic of them. The turnshoe look similar to the ones show here. I would imagine that the construction varies....

The boot looks like its a no-go except for backups.

I have to say that the hides look nice! And at least they are not the obligatory black/tan with fringed top kind either. Somebody did at least put some work into them and the leather alone is worth what you paid. (Of course, that's just my opinion )

hello Christian,

hmmm. where to start.

questions: can you work on them? do you have the tools or expirience? can you norrow the style down from 200 years to about a decade from which you want to portray? what nationality? how accurate do you want to be? can you post better pictures? (of interest would be the seams) how loose/tight are they right now? do you even want to bother with it? will you finish what you start or would you rather just leave it as is and have a pair of "kewl" shoes for the night club? have i asked enough questions?

just use black or blue ink to bubble in the answers.

have fun,

daniel
