o.k. i may be rehashing an old thread but has there been any info posted on appropriate patterns for a ladies smock and a ladies gown? i'm passing this info on in oder to help a friend with her dress.

what period? ours 'round 1470/1480
what country? northern italian/swabisch german.
what class? middling/artisan.

from reading some of the old threads i gathered that a ladies smock is constructed in the same fashion as a man's shirt 'cept that it is much longer and has triangles inserted in the bottom to make it fuller?

i really have no idea as to the cut of a ladie's gown. been looking around at paintings etc for seam lines with some sucess. i found Van der Wyden's descent from the cross; that is where your gown was inspiered from? i've also looked into some reproductions like the one's in Medieval Soldier and Eyewitness Books Medieval Life page 23.

suggestions please.
