In the Phoebus and Shooes Thread there was a side discussion of the hat worn by the gentleman whose shoes are being discussed. I thought ya'll might be interested in the following website: Headdress Classification. It represents a couple of sections out of a Master's thesis studying men's hats in the 15th and early 16th centuries.

Based on my reading of her descriptions, I believe the hat in question would be classed as an acorn cap with a split brim that has been turned up. This would be a rare brim treatment to a very common hat construction.
