Hi Alexandra,

I think that you may have to contact the IJA (International Jousting Association). They may know of someone in your area that might be able to help.

I wish you didn't live in England. I am working on getting a group together here where I live in Missouri. That might be a bit of a travel for you!

I think Destrier is a historical equestrian group and as such, I am not certain women participate in the competive or portrayal aspect of their group except in the known historical roles of ladies.

In participation with the Euro Jousting League, that rule may be relaxed as it is more sport oriented rather than 100% historical, at least that's what I gathered from reading the rules on the web site and conversations with the New England group in the US.

Absolutely! There are highly competitive women in the sport.

Keep in mind that groups that do historical interpretation, have to stick to what was done in a specific geographic location in a certain time period and which can be documented. It shouldn't be taken as exclusionary or suggest that women are not capable of participating in the sport. IJA and Euro jousting allow everyone capable of participating to do so.

You may want to contact Destrier. Their regular gig may not allow you to participate as a combatant, but they may still be able to help you out.

Hey Alexandra !

On 19-20th March, some jousters of the EJL will gather in Peterborough for a jousting demo at Shire Horse Show.

Representatives from Destrier (UK) and Hackamores (B) were invited by Chevalerie Initiatique (F) to meet for some kind of a tune up before the EJL season opens.

This event could be the occasion for you to meet the bunch and get the contacts you seek. Even better, we could have the time to get you get a taste at it... up to you !
