What color is the boar? A white boar would indicate that you are in the service of his Grace, Richard Duke of Glouster, later King Richard III. Murray and blue (your livery colors) also indicate that you are allied with the House of York. (Edward IV/Richard III) I think general rules of heraldry, though there are some exceptions, avoid color on color and metal on metal. It seems like your heraldic devices follow these rules: White field, with black raven; a green chief with white swords. I could be wrong, but I think everyone owes fealty or service to someone, unless you happen to be Fiore dei Liberi (of the free ones). -------------------- ad finem fidelis

Laws governing heraldry are more complex than I make out here, but if your persona is the 3rd son of a nobleman, your arms would be relatively similar to your persona's father's arms. You would have it differenced by a mark of cadency. This doesn't have to be a label (1st son), it can be the addition of a border or some other means to difference it from the heir to the lands.I am not up on Scottish or Irish Heraldry, especially ancient heraldry. So I am not sure how the rules might change. -------------------- ad finem fidelis

For your purposes a border might be enough. Like I said this is very basic heraldry. The rules get more complex as you look into it deeper. It can get more complex with issues such as borders if your "family" is a cadet branch of the main family, in which case the King might say that a border is 'not enough of a difference'.Marks of cadency in the English tradition seem to be pretty uniform: label = first son Crescent (points up) = second son I don't have my heraldry books to hand so I am flying off of memory. I can't remember what the third device is, I believe the 4th is a Martlet (legless bird). Liveries, I am not that up on. Here is a brief discussion about Livery Jackets. It primarily deals with the Burgundians. http://www.wolfeargent.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=000245 It might help you decide how you can go about it. I have seen it worked by re-enactors in many different ways. -------------------- ad finem fidelis

In the service of Richard III would place you after April of 1483 and before August 22, 1485 (battle of Redmoore aka-Bosworth).You might try for starts finding a gentry family name and creating a fictious cadet branch. You might also try to determine whether your persona is from the North of England or the South (London).
