The way I see it you have pretty much 3 standards of amour available.

Indian/ backyard armourer

MJ (best armour)

The Masters (Jeff, McPherson, etc. etc.)

I'm currently losing the weight I've put on since I moved here (60lbs in all). I'm commuting to work on bike and have changed my diet. So for the time being I do not want to waste money on a half harness that might not even fit by the time I get it.

So, I want a one piece Sallet with the cut occular and lined to start my kit.

example: http://www.glasgowmuseums.com/assets/slideShows/E.1939.65.ai.jpg I really like this style

The following is my problem.

The Indian Helms are not even an option

The one from MJ (SS 4.4) is wrong (occular too large and tail too short).

The Masters, I cannot afford $900 or more for an unlined helm.

So is there a source between MJ and the Masters?

To where I can get a historically accurate Sallet better than munitions grade, lined for about $5-600

I know you get what you pay for in this, so I'm not trying to cheapen the Art, just curious.

Hi Tod,

MJ is really the only option in your price range. Keep in mind they can make a go at any type of helmet you want, and are not limited by their photo-catalog. Send them the picture of the hat you want, and get a quote - thats what I would do if I were you in your monetary situation.

This is what I figured. I'm just not sure how well instructions are conveyed to them. For example, the archer sallet that a bloke from your group ordered looks as though he needs a half jar of vasoline to squeeze into. Not to mention the side of the sallets don't seem to flare proper either, so guess I'm going to commission a piece through Jeff or someone else.

I might get my half harness from MJ to save this way. I's rather just spend a little more for a proper helm.
