No, not who makes the best... I was just wondering if anyone had ordered from this Czech supplier. I'm very impressed with what I've seen from their site.

Yes, several members of Wolfe Argent have some of their work. They make very nice, acceptable armour we use for munition armour for the footsoldiers of the lance.

Some of their armour runs to the small side, so take care with your measurements.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been wanting to get a kettle helm that was outside of the garden variety, and he has a few styles that I really like.

Bob, are the Czech arms and armour up to fighting in, or is it better suited to LH?

They can build it either way. We used one of their hats at Mont St.-Anne, and it worked fine, but nobody took a whack to the head wearing it. They are solidly 16 guage, and not 18 guage or thinner Indian pieces. The piece we used was not over-built for "fighting".

I received a harness this past summer from them.

They required no deposit until about two weeks before they began. Delivery was about 12 weeks later. They asked me to re-measure when they thought something "looked odd."

All in all the fit was very very good except for the bevor which they are adjusting when I visit them in the spring. They will not make fitted legs without you going there. They will make half greaves by mail.

We deliberately added 2 cm to the head size to accomodate a period linen padded lining which they do not supply. It proved to be just right.

As for combat, the harness is made of a milder steel. They do not supply pieces in spring steel. I think they are capable of it . . . As far as holding up, I think this harness might get dented in SCA type combat where they seem to be able to dent 10ga helmets with wooden clubs without too much problem. For more period combat, I am sure it is prone to damage as much as any other period harness save the finer harness of the lords.

If you are looking for indestructable, I don't think this is it. For a fair representation, I think it is OK. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the harness at an 8.

I tried ordering from them in the past and there was a bit of a language problem.

Has that improved?

I used simple sentences and words and supplied pictures of everything that I wanted. I experienced no language problems.

If you have MS Word, you can have it check the readability of your text to them. They were reading 6.0 level text without a problem so they can do better than 25% of the US . . .
