Anybody ever order from these guys? I thought about ordering something from them but I am leery of buying thru email. They don't have the "shopping cart" purchasing like other sites. I prefer to buy from HE but these guys have some things that HE doesn't and I would like to try them out. Do they have a good rep?
Thanks.

One of Wolfe Argent's members recently received kit from them and was greatly pleased with his purchases. We have not seen the clothing yet. So, we can't give any specifics.

We'll let you know once we see it up close and in person.

What kinda of stuff were you looking at?

Keep in mind that MD is in Italy. So if you're looking at furniture and what not, keep shipping and customs in mind. It can get pricey.

I started off with a minor $60 purchase of a padded coif, straw hat and a knife. We will go from there. I would like some of the bone glasses frames but those are rather high $$$. May go with the wooden ones.

Heh, I'm thinking a section for vendor reviews/feedback would be a great addition here

What if you write with a question regarding their merchandise, ask for a reference or some sources, need help with something or simply place an order, they are most incredibly prompt, honest and friendly. That would be a good idea if there wasn't such a thing as Libel. Good reviews are okay until a bad review comes along and potentially ruins a persons reputation. This person could then sue either the forum owner or the individual who posted for libel.

EDIT: terrible grammar

I don't know that libel covers reviews or opinions of products - libel generally covers the character of individuals.

What I do is I praise and give positive reviews of companies that I know make accurate objects, and I do not give reviews of companies I have not used. I think perhaps the best guide is to go to a reenactment groups links, when the reenactment group has a high reputation for historical fidelity, and use their suppliers links as a starting point.

A quick search brought this up from Google:

Can I sue someone who says or writes something defamatory about me?

In order to prove defamation, you have to be able to prove that what was said or written about you was false. If the information is true, or if you consented to publication of the material, you will not have a case. However, you may bring an defamatory action if the comments are so reprehensible and false that they effect your reputation in the community or cast aspersions on you.
--------------------------------------------

It's hardly from the big book of law but it is based upon actual law.

Taken from This free legal advice site

"so reprehensible that they affect your reputaion in the community"
Could count as someone saying you do shoddy work which gets out to people not hiring you due to apparently the consensus about town.
Admittedly, that is an extreme and fictitious case, but it could happen

I believe defamation of character, character assassination, libel are related to the person as Bob stated above. If you buy something, I believe you can make a product review and let people decide. It's how you write that review.

If I say something and someone sues me and I have the shoddy product to prove it and I didn't say anything truly heinous with the intent to destroy a business, then they're wasting the tax payers money and the Judicial systems time.

This is why Hollywood actors have a hard time sueing those stupid tabloids. Occasionally a star will win. The most recent case that I can remember, since I don't read tabloids, but this one made the news in the US, was when a tabloid in the US said Tom Selleck was gay. He sued for libel and won.

I think if you are going to write a product review you have to KEEP OBJECTIVITY. Pros and cons.

What I liked about the product

How it performed.

Materials

Workmanship: Poor Fair Good Excellent

Places that could use improvement.

Have 'I' communicated these suggestions to the merchant?

Are they approved for you group?

Why or why not based on objective model, not stating it sucks, the owner's a jerk, blah blah blah... This is where you start hitting the darkside. As soon as you make it personal and set out to get others to black list a company, I think that's where you run into the potential, especially if the person is a quality craftsperson. Also, if you make a statement, be prepared to back it up.

Take a page from "Consumer Reports". I don't recall them getting sued for libel. They just state the product facts and let the consumers decide what they want to buy and what exceptions they're willing to make.

I've seen armourers (I'm speaking in generalizations here) get blasted because they state something that is not true about their product and bring the "wrath" of the community down on them like a sack of hammers.

Many magazines get around this by only publishing good or lukewarm reviews. You learn more by what is not said than what is said. A good or glowing review is usually taken at face value and a lukewarm review is a warning to the potential buyer. If a business or product has been around for a while but a magazine still has not done a review, you can usually work out why.

I have done several reviews on the Armour Archive that are in depth. I find that just narrating the factual elements of your purchasing experience--without glossing over any shortcomings on your side either--and the physical realities of the product is the best way to go about it.

Hmmm...well, all I was looking for was whether or not these folks were reliable. They sent me an email stating the order had been shipped and that I would get it in 7-10 days. They seemed pleasant enough to deal with.

Well, I bought a straw hat, padded coif and a knife. The straw hat was just that...a straw hat, not much to write about there other than they seem to be made for people with slightly large heads . The padded coif seems to be really well made, they made one from my specific measurements at no extra charge. Although I suspect they used synthetic filler. The knife looks nice but the steel feels strange (I don't know much about smithing or metallurgy so I can't tell you exactly), it came in without an edge but that is understandable. My gut feeling tells me that it may be stamped. I will learn more when I go to sharpen it...
The prices are pretty low so for us poor beginners they are worth the money. Here are the pics of the items I bought (these are pics from the website as I haven't got pics of mine yet).

Straw Hat
Padded Coif

Knife
I got the little knife to the far right.

Yeah, those boots look sweet. The gown is nice, too. I found Luciano very easy to deal with and I will probably place another order with him soon.
