Fennguard,

what time period are you trying to work within? You might get some nibbles if you can be a little more specific.

I think one of the first things is narrowing your focus. Picking a time and a location is a good start, the rest will fill in once you do that.

As far as narrowing down a time / location goes I am open to suggestion. I would really like to get into full plate , perhaps even tuornement style pagentry. I want this group to be a place where financially not so well off's have a chance to live out their dreams. (We have horses, not money )
I have heretofor only been able to construct chain maille, & that is what has set my time period. If I can get together with interested parties who have the desire to learn to make plate ... yaaaahhhooooo

Have you talked to Glen Kyle? He's in the Atlanta area. Their group doesn't do tournament/pagentry, though Glen used to joust at Ren Faires.

I'm not 100% sure what they are up to these days, but you might want to give them a yell. They have horses too.
