ok, it's 3am and i can't sleep. 'been thiking about the classes that i'll be taking next semester. i was reviewing the classes that i've taken and figured out that i'm under 30 credits shy of a BA in history. i'm currently working on a BS in chemistry with a certification in forensics. unfortunately the classes that i need to take in order to finish my BS are not offered every semester and i need to be a full time student in order to keep my grants, etc. so.... i have these holes in my class schedule that i need to fill and if i do so with history courses i will be able to have a BA in History before i'm awarded my BS.

i enjoy history and i find myself escaping to it when i want to get away from my studies, i.e. after a big exam or what not and i just want to forget about chemistry for a while.

so what can i do with a history BA? i've gotten conflicting advisement from my proffesors. what do you all have to say?

thanks,

daniel

he-he-he i have one! but im currently help running a family business and prob will never use my degree save for hobbies.

lets lets think about it. a ba is a good lead for a masters. which u need to work in most museums.
national or state parks are good with a ba. teaching (nuff said).
national or local libraries
government jobs (had one of these ehhe).
law offices (research)

i've come to learn that most jobs just look to see if you have that little piece of paper that says u have a degree. doesnt much matter in what, unless its a specific job hehehe

Employers generally want some sort of certification that says "This person has these skills." They may say they want a 4 year degree, but a degree is not worth a whole lot to lots of companies without experience or certifictation.

I would advise you to get a (even menial) job in the area that interests you and get experience while working on finishing your education. Esp in bad economic times, employers look for documentation, certifictation and experience over general education. That is my 2 cents.

The last time I saw a statistic on employment and the degree the individual held. The number was that 80% of all people never work in the field that they majored in.

I know I have a BA in history, after I decided I was not in the mood to finsih grad school I got some great jobs in Retail and waiting tables. I then ran into a friend, who put my resume in to EDS. Now I have a job in business and am working on my MBA.
